The Vital Facebook Author Page

From all of the research I’ve done, I’ve found one of the most important parts of an indie author’s platform is the Facebook author page. Not only is it important to have a dedicated home on Facebook to promote your books separately from your personal page, but the Facebook author page is also a must if you ever choose to advertise on Facebook.

Setting up my Facebook author page is one of those tasks I can do while I’m waiting on other stuff. It’s pretty straightforward, and Facebook makes it easy. You just need to make sure you have a personal page first, but most people do. There’s also a good handful of tutorials on Youtube for setting up a Facebook author page out there.

I am still waiting on the cover files, which is frustrating. Today is the day I wanted to post my cover on Facebook and Instagram. I think I should still do it. The issue is that people may see that and go to Amazon and find that only the ebook is available for preorder. I’d prefer them to see as many formats as possible. I am debating whether to postpone that Facebook post, but there are a few reasons I wanted to post it today. One of the reasons is personal.

Regardless, I am going to post the cover image on social media today. Then I am going to update my website and eventually launch my own Facebook author page. I need to add a newsletter sign up form on my website, and on the Facebook author page if it allows me to. I’d have to look into that.

I listened to a bunch of podcasts yesterday. I actually had a meeting for Webstyle. It almost didn’t go. I was sent to the wrong address. That was frustrating. I almost canceled the appointment, but the client was only 25 minutes away in Long Beach. I figured I could get there and finish the meeting in under two hours. I did just that. It was a wedding chapel.

I listened to a lot of the Kindlepreneur podcast. There were a few episodes on how to add categories beyond the two that Amazon allows. There was also a good episode on email lists and how important they are. He had Mark Dawson of the Self Publishing Formula podcast, one of the two Brit hosts. Mark had been wildly successful and credits his email list. I have that on my list of to-dos on my action plan.

My book came in yesterday. The Old Man and the Sea. A high school classic that I never read in high school. I remember trying to read it on my iPad a few years ago. I don’t think I finished. I’d be surprised if I did. I’m going to take it to the beach today after I drop the girls off at school. L is giving a speech at school. She’s running for treasurer. I’ll stay for that and then I’m going to grab a bite and some coffee and head to the beach with my book for a couple of hours. I’m looking forward to that. I won’t stay past 12:00. I’ve got some work to do and I need to post my cover.
