They say everyone has a book in them. At least one book. It’s the second book, the follow up book, that doesn’t come so easy. I spent the last eight or nine years with the story that eventually became Naughty Week. Now what?
I have been considering writing a follow up book to Naughty Week for some time. I’ve had some ideas floating around in my head. I wasn’t sure if Naughty Week could be the first book of a series. I never really intended it to be, but I love the characters so much. If I can come up with a story that has heart, then I could really start to outline the follow up book.
I actually got motivated about some new ideas and did some writing. I made some notes for what I’m thinking could be a potential follow up to Naughty Week. I’m calling it Lucky Day. It’s set in the days leading up to St. Patrick’s day 2014 in Savannah, Georgia. I’m introducing two new characters, a leprechaun (of course) and Dale’s niece.
I’m excited about the project’s potential. I think if I can figure out what the story is about, the heart of it all, then I could have some success working it out. We’ll see. Maybe a follow up book isn’t out of the question.
Yesterday was a good day. I dropped off the girls at the bus stop, came back to the apartment real quick to change, then headed to the gym to work out a bit. I cleaned up and checked my Amazon ads, as per usual. There is definitely something about advertising and marketing that I enjoy. It’s the statistics, perhaps. That could be why I used to like fantasy football so much.
Anyway, I reworked the “Kindle October Campaign” and made it a “Paperback October Campaign.” It’s basically the exact campaign except I am advertising the paperback version of the book because the data overwhelmingly suggests people prefer an affordable physical copy.
I have about two weeks of data right now. Lots of impressions, some clicks, no sales. That could change, but there are certainly other factors at play, like whether it’s because we’re getting closer to Christmas.
I think I will continue this campaign, the paperback one, but maybe adjust and add keywords. Come November, I could try a new pilot campaign like I’m doing with the budget campaign. It’s interesting because the budget campaign is like my minor league team, and the main campaign is like the starters and I’m recruiting or breeding keywords to start for me. Fantasy AMS ads. Yeah, I’m such a nerd.
I’m continuing to build my mailing list for the newsletter. Yesterday I added a bunch of people. I mined some old emails, friends and coworkers and such. Later, I went on a hike with a friend and remembered the time we went to the wish factory and my wish was for my book to get in front of the right person. Maybe it’ll come true yet.
I finished everything on my power list before 12:15 PM except for reading. But I figured I could read at night if necessary. It was an awesome hike today, then I went home and cleaned up. Had the mole leftovers from Saturday night’s dinner at Guelaguetza. Jammed out some piano, then watched a scary movie, “47 Meters Down.” Wow, that was intense. Tried watching “Children of the Corn” to continue the Halloween-scary-movie-marathon, but it was lame. I read, then went to bed. It was a great day.
