It’s hosted by John August and Craig Mazin — two experienced, very intelligent screenwriting professionals — and it is an education. (Seriously, the blow anyone offering writing tips out of the water).
There are no ads, they are not making money off the podcast, and they don’t really have anything to gain from providing this content.
Yet they’ve been doing it for more than 10 years.
Seriously — If you are in school for screenwriting and your teacher or professor is not recommending or requiring that you listen to the Scriptnotes podcast, then your teacher is completely out of touch and has no right to be teaching.
Yes, that’s fairly brutal damning of screenwriting teachers, but anyone in a position to teach screenwriting should at least know about the Scriptnotes podcast. And if they are not recommending it to students because it contradicts what they are teaching, then aspiring screenwriters, please drop the class.
